Volvo XC40 vs Mercedes-Benz, BMW, & INFINITI

The Style You Love, the Features You Want, and the Luxury You Deserve - the Volvo XC40 Delivers More of Everything Our Customers are Looking For

It's been a couple years now since the Volvo XC40 first debuted in our collection at All Star Volvo Cars of Baton Rouge. This game-changing crossover artfully blends the sporty and eye-catching SUV style that Louisiana drivers love, in a subcompact size that's unique and easy to park. It seats four people, has four doors, and comes with all the Volvo brand qualities you're looking for.

But while the XC40 is a terrific investment for any luxury SUV shopper who wants something that exceeds expectations, we understand that it's not the only small crossover available in the greater Denham Springs and Prairieville area.

If you're considering a small SUV for your next vehicle, allow us to tell you more about the XC40 and explain all the ways in which our model compares to similarly sized vehicles. Not only will you find that our crossover is the only small luxury SUV in its class to offer a version that's 100% electric, with the available Volvo XC40 Recharge model, but you'll also discover a long list of ways that the XC40 not only holds up next to the competition, but also comes out ahead.

The Volvo XC40 vs. the BMW X1

  • Powertrain options and electric availability. The Volvo XC40 is more than just a subcompact crossover. It's also a high-end model with power and the smooth handling drivers are looking for. With this model, Gonzales drivers get to pick from either two gas-powered engines or the exclusively electric, ground-breaking Recharge option. The BMW X1, on the other hand, doesn't give you any choices for power. It comes powered solely by a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, with no alternatives for more efficiency or power.
  • Interior space. While both luxury crossovers have the smaller size that drivers appreciate, the Volvo XC40 maximizes its interior dimensions better for more passenger space. Look for more legroom in the XC40, especially in the front seat, and more elbow and shoulder room to stretch out in throughout the cabin, than the X1.
  • Standard features. Every Volvo XC40 comes with a comprehensive list of the latest amenities for tech and safety, with additional features available on upper trims. Look for standard adaptive headlights that swivel, standard driver attention monitor, standard blind-spot monitoring, and more, on the XC40, while these features are not listed among the standard X1 menu.

The Volvo XC40 vs. the INFINITI QX50

  • Engine options and electric power. As with the BMW comparison before this, the XC40 also has more cutting-edge power options than the INIFINITI QX50. Every crossover in the QX50 lineup gets the same power from a standard gas engine. There are no low or zero emission alternatives and no other gas options. But the Volvo XC40 gives drivers a range of choices between two great gas engines and the alternative Recharge electric powertrain.
  • Standard tech. As a high-end Volvo, it comes as no surprise that the XC40 packs a long list of standard tech amenities for comfort and connectivity. In fact, it has a few more standard features than you'll find on the QX50, including an automatically dimming rearview mirror, a larger, 12.3-inch touchscreen, and automatic windshield wipers. The INFINITI model has each of these features available, but not until further up the lineup rather than as standard equipment.
  • Standard safety features. With the signature Volvo reputation for cutting-edge safety technology backing every model, the XC40 also has more standard safety features than the QX50. Look for standard lane-keeping assistance, standard adaptive headlights, and standard driver attention warning on the XC40. None of these advanced safety features are standard with the INFINITI model and, if they're available at all, it's only as options on upper trims.

The Volvo XC40 vs. the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class

  • Power and efficiency. Unlike the other luxury crossovers in this comparison, the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class does offer drivers alternative gas engines to choose from. But it doesn't have an electric or even a hybrid option. Like the Volvo XC40, there are multiple levels of impressive gas-powered engines here, but the GLA-Class doesn't have the efficiency or ground-breaking engineering of an all-electric engine in its lineup.
  • Standard safety tech. Both popular SUVs have a nice roster of the latest safety technologies available in their lineup. But the Volvo XC40 gets them standard, while the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class has them listed as optional and part of a special, add-on package. In fact, the only advanced safety feature you'll get standard on the GLA models is forward collision mitigation, while the Volvo has that, and many others, standard for every model and every driver.
  • Interior space. From cargo room to passenger comfort, the Volvo XC40 has more space inside its small frame than the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class. Carry more groceries or suitcases with the XC40, which has a cargo space that can hold more than 20 cubic feet, while the GLA model has a cargo capacity of just 15.4 cubic feet. Elsewhere, stretch out and enjoy more headroom, shoulder room, and elbow room in the Volvo than you'll get in the Mercedes-Benz model.
